Therapeutic Mentoring.

So what is Therapeutic Mentoring and why is it needed?

Every year, thousands of employees require time away from work due to a wide range of mental health related issues. This in turn impacts productivity and team morale, with work loads increasing or temporary staff being used, which can directly impact time and money. In severe cases some staff may never return.

If there was a service that could be offered to staff as a preventative measure or even in crisis would this be useful?

Centre for Mental Health chief executive Sarah Hughes said: “At any one time, 1 in 5 working people will have a mental health difficulty. Many will never get any help. Some end up losing their jobs while for others being at work is an important part of recovering from a mental health problem. Mental health problems in the UK workforce cost employers almost £35 billion last year, according to research published by Centre for Mental Health. This is a result of inflation and a rise in the size of the workforce since 2007. This means that mental health problems cost £1,300 for every employee in the UK economy. **

So what is Therapeutic Mentoring and why is it needed?

Belgrave Mind has developed a service that combines work supervision and therapy. By having a therapeutic foundation this intervention is able to focus on the mental health aspects that are associated with or from work, thereby offering a safe space to work with somebody from outside of the workplace, whilst utilising the techniques and skills we have to provide a tailored level of support to the individual. We believe that in specific roles we are at times unaware of the mental strain that can be placed on the individual. We believe that in specific roles we are at times unaware of the mental strain that can be placed on the individual. This can range throughout the workforce, from the frontline staff who are at the forefront who see and feel first hand, which can result in trauma transferring or developing, to the director who oversees and has targets and deadlines. The impacts of Covid-19, Brexit and Inflation have all shown ways in which the work force can be affected.

Therapeutic Mentoring sessions can be one to one or group based (dependant upon the need and relationship with staff members). There will be an agreed number of sessions, and within those your staff will have access to a dedicated member of staff who would facilitate the sessions.
